Job Description Summary: The Business Office Secretary ~ Payroll will provide support services to Hillsdale County ISD as well as local districts as assigned. This will include payroll, payroll liabilities and pupil auditing support as requested.
Reports to: Assistant Business Manager ~ Payroll
Supervises: N/A
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Payroll data entry and liabilities as a backup for HCISD.
- Payroll data entry and liabilities for local districts (LEAs) serviced by HCISD.
- Assists in proper coding, account distribution and taxes for payroll.
- Reviews wages computed and corrects errors to ensure accuracy of payroll.
- Assist with record keeping of leave pay and nontaxable wages.
- Assist in recording, mailing and/or filing appropriate employment documents specific to the various classifications of employees.
- Work cooperatively with HCISD LEA Business Manager(s), HCISD Business Office staff and LEA Superintendents, and staff.
- Shall perform other duties and responsibilities as directed.
Minimal Qualifications:
- Must have practical secretarial experience.
- Must have demonstrated skills with relevant technology, organizational and presentation skills.
- Must have demonstrated math, written and verbal communication skills.
- Prior accounting background preferred. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and a good understanding of current trends in accounting, related to public finance, is a bonus.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and Word application experience is a must. Working knowledge of
- Ability to communicate clearly, timely, and accurately.
- Ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality is mandatory.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with staff information.
- Ability to organize workload, maintain accurate documentation, adapt quickly to change, and deliver accurate results under the pressure of deadlines.
- Must be detail oriented.
- Ability to utilize and operate computers and software.
- Must have demonstrated skills and knowledge of human relations. Must be able to work well with all staff including, support, professional staff, building administrators and as a member of a professional team and dependability is required. Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with staff at all levels.
- Must be able to effectively take direction, as well as work independently and as a member of a team.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED required. Secretarial experience preferred and additional experience in public school finance/business would be a plus.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
MSBO certification and Notary of Public Licensing will be required once hired and maintained during employment. Valid Michigan driver’s license and good driving record required.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to compose and write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from various groups including administrators, staff, local school districts within the county, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to accurately perform all accounting functions. Ability to define, collect and analyze measurable facts and data to develop valid, meaningful conclusions.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to frame and solve a practical problem logically and rationally. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in a variety of forms (written, oral, diagram or schedule).

Attendance is an essential part of employment.
This position is year round 230 day, 8 hours per day. Pay will be determined upon hire and based on the support staff contract. Hire date will be determined upon hire.
