Special Education Classroom Assistant 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Other Duties may be Assigned

• Commitment to working with individuals with disabilities, especially those with significant academic and behavioral challenges
• Physical demands include: standing, walking, bending, reaching and lifting and/or moving students
• A demonstrated pattern of excellent attendance
• Ability and willingness to perform lifts and transfers and assist with personal care needs of students at assigned grade level
• Flexibility to work in many different classrooms/environments.
• Maintains confidentiality of records and student matters.
• Perform such other duties and assume such other responsibilities as may, from time to time, be assigned

Education and/or Experience

• High School diploma
• Proven experience working with students with a variety of disabilities preferred
• Skill in dealing with challenging behaviors as well as significant academic challenges
• Skills for effective communication and interpersonal relations with students, staff, and parents
• Attendance is an essential part of employment.

Employment Date, Salary, and Work Year

The anticipated start date will be determined upon hire.  Salary is determined as per the support staff contract.

• Minimum pay is $16.00.
• You will have all holidays off, Spring Break, etc.
• This position works approximately 183 days per year dependent upon assignment.
• Work day may vary based on placement and need with a 1/2 hour duty free lunch and two 15 minute breaks.
