The Speech Language Pathologist - Early Interventionist will service students from birth to three years of age.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Participates actively in building screening team meetings. Evaluates students referred by school, parents, physicians.

  • Conducts assessments appropriate for his/her discipline to make children eligible for Early On, MMSE or Part B.
  • Screens children and secures REED for referral to Part B for children 3-5.
  • Submits thorough, meaningful and concise written reports in a timely manner to appropriate team members in preparation for an IFSP or IEP.
  • Participates in IEP meetings to transition children to Part B services.
  • Works collaboratively with local school team and parents to develop meaningful and functional IEP goals.
  • Provides services in the family’s home and/or daycare, wherever the child spends most of his/her time.
  • Directs instruction to parents by providing meaningful coaching to build the skills necessary to support their child’s development.
  • Supports parents to incorporate child outcomes as part of daily routines including things they do as a family and places they go.
  • Works as part of a team in a Primary Service Provider Model, in which the employee will be required to work on all aspects of a child’s development and utilize other team members for support and guidance.
  • Participates in co-visits with other staff to learn from and/or support staff and family’s needs.
  • Utilizes interviewing skills to conduct family assessments to learn more about the family’s strengths, needs and priorities for their child.
  • Develops functional outcomes in partnership with families that are based upon family interests and priorities.
  • Facilitates all aspects of the IFSP including conducting reviews, documenting growth on overall development and updating outcomes as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates a strong foundation and understanding of early childhood development, educates parents and supports the whole child’s development through the general curriculum.
  • Supports families in connecting to other services in the community that they may need.
  • Facilitates and participates in learning groups for infants and toddlers and/or parents as needed for the program.
  • Is flexible with respect to work schedule including days and hours and dosage of service in order to meet the federal mandate to evaluate a child within 45 calendar days as well as provides services in a manner that supports family’s needs when learning a new skill.
  • Participates in and occasionally assists in the organization of meetings, committees and special functions.
  • Maintains positive and open communication with parents, staff and administration;
  • Conducts self in a professional manner and maintains a positive image during the work day and at all work related activities.
  • Maintains accurate and up to date paperwork.
  • Attendance is an essential part of employment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements

Education and/or Experience

  • Required Master’s degree in the field of Speech and Language Pathology.
  • Michigan Department of Education approval as Teacher of Speech and Language Impaired.
  • ASHA and CCC certified preferred.
  • Experience with children birth to three is a plus.

Employment Date, Salary, and Work Year


Anticipated start date will be determined upon hire.  Salary is determined as per the master contract.  Workdays will be 185 days per the master contract.  This position will be open until filled if a suitable candidate is not identified. EOE
