 Teacher for the Emotionally Impaired

 

Summary:

Provide educational and personal/social service for Emotionally Impaired students.
Duties include classroom instruction and development of behavioral management strategies.
Responsible for planning instruction and/or adaption of the education program to enable students
to benefit from educational experiences.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.
1. Classroom instruction.
2. Development of behavioral management strategies.
3. Improve peer relationships.
4. Instructs individuals and groups in special education skill areas.
5. Plans curriculum, lessons, and special ed programs and teaching methods.
6. Evaluates student progress based on papers submitted, test scores and observation.
7. Monitors students progress in and outside special ed room.
8. Maintains physical environment of the classroom.
9. Maintains contact with parents of students.
10. Evaluates student progress based on work output and observation, determines
goals, objectives and directions.
11. Prepares report cards, educational records, IEP forms, classroom observation
records, and other forms.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises students and teacher assistants.


Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to

Education and/or Experience: Bachelors degree in Education.

 

Certificates, Licenses Registrations: Valid Michigan teaching certificate with full or temporary
approval in Emotionally Impaired.


Language skills: Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional
journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business
correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond
to questions from groups of administrators, staff and the general public.

 

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest,
commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply
concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and
statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to
apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to
instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school
objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and
maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to
speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently walking and standing. The
employee may frequently bend or twist at the neck and back while performing the duties of this
job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision and close vision such
as to read typewritten material. The employee may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds such as
student equipment and wheelchairs. The employee may have to restrain students per their CPI
training as needed.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is
frequently required to interact with the public and other staff. The employee is directly

Employment Date, Salary and Work Year

 

The start date will be determined upon hire.  The salary is determined as per the master contract. Workdays will be 185-200 days. EOE
